Сучасний Китай після успішного здійснення "політики реформ і відкритості" фактично відійшов від марксистсько-маоїстського підходу до дипломатії на користь більш інтегративного підходу, поєднуючи звернення до етичних установок конфуціанської традиції з прагненням інкорпорувати методологію та практичні підходи західних шкіл міжнародних відносин та дипломатії. Метою був міждисциплінарний аналіз ідейно-ціннісних та теоретичних засад, сучасного стану та особливостей здійснення економічної дипломатії Китаю стосовно країн, що розвиваються, на прикладі регіону Африканського Рогу - осередку складного переплетення інтересів ключових світових гравців.
